Judy M. Nelson served on the Glendora City Council from 2011 to 2020, serving two terms as Mayor in 2014-15 and 2019-2020. She and her husband, Byron, are both Southern California natives, the parents of 4 children, 2 children-in-law and grandparents of 2 girls and 2 boys.
Judy has a B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. She worked as a therapist, specializing in pediatric rehabilitation, for ten years, until retiring to become a stay-at-home mom.
Judy and Byron were married in 1968 and moved to Glendora in 1980 with their four small children. Judy was a stay-at-home mom until 1985 when her youngest children, twins, were in 2nd grade. At that time, she opened Mrs. Nelson’s Toy and Book Shop which was eventually expanded to encompass 3 independent companies including school book fairs and library bindery services.
Over the last few decades, Judy has become concerned with the direction of our state and federal government. She is passionate about the need for leaders who serve with integrity and a commitment to doing what is in the best interests of citizens. While serving on Glendora’s City Council she advocated for residents to become actively involved in selecting responsible representatives and providing oversight. She vowed to do her best to preserve local control of City functions and to ensure that Glendora remain fiscally sound and prosperous long into the future.
In retirement, Judy remains actively committed to the principle of governance “by the people and for the people”, advocating for small government, low taxes, limited regulation and personal freedom.
